Mount Carmel College of Nursing to Officially Install New President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, with Inauguration Oct. 24

Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN) will officially launch the presidency of new President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, with a day’s worth of Inauguration activities on Friday, October 24. Wynd is just the second president in the College’s history.

In keeping with Mount Carmel’s Catholic heritage, the day will begin with an Inaugural Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 East Broad St. The mass will serve to bless and spiritually celebrate Wynd’s presidency at MCCN and will be officiated by the Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell, DD, PhD, Bishop of Columbus.

Festivities will continue with the Inauguration and Presidential Installation Ceremony at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), 333 West Broad St. at 3 p.m. An inauguration ceremony is a tradition held by colleges and universities to officially initiate a president’s new term. Immediately following the ceremony, attendees will enjoy a dessert reception.

“We are pleased to officially install and launch Dr. Wynd’s presidency, heralding a new beginning while continuing the College’s reputation for excellence in nursing education and advancing growth and transformation to meet the future needs of health care,” said Matt Mazza, Chair, MCCN Board of Trustees.

Wynd became president in July succeeding Ann Schiele, PhD, RN, who transitioned to President Emeritus after a long tenure with Mount Carmel. Before coming to MCCN, Wynd served as dean and Strawbridge Professor at the Breen School of Nursing at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Her experience in nursing education and leadership is extensive and includes directing the PhD in Nursing program at the University of Akron and teaching at both The Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University. She retired from the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps at the rank of colonel in 2001. Her military experience includes serving as chief nurse for two separate combat support hospitals and as the Reserve representative to the Office of the Assistant Chief, Army Nurse Corps.
