If you are ready to take your Master of Science degree to an even higher level, the Graduate Certificate in Nursing
Education at Mount Carmel College of Nursing may be the program for you. This dynamic program prepares licensed registered nurses, who already have a Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN or MS), for another exciting level of practice - the role of qualified educator in an academic or healthcare setting. This certificate program builds on previous knowledge obtained in the master’s program.
The Graduate certificate program has two convenient options for students: the online program or the traditional, on-site program. The choice of options allows flexibility in course offerings, while meeting the personal and professional needs of students. Students can continue their academic pursuits by choosing the option that best fits their own needs. Full time students can complete the program in four semesters.
Master’s prepared nurses wanting to take their professional calling to another area of nursing will find that the four nursing education courses offered through the program will enhance their practices.
- Curriculum and Program Development
Nursing curriculum design in higher education and program development will be explored. Influences of accreditation requirements as well as societal and practice requirements will also be discussed.
- Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation
This course focuses on elements of assessment, measurement and evaluation of learning and program outcomes in the areas of higher education,staff development/continuing education and consumer education.
- Theoretical Foundations of the Instructional Process
This course focuses on the art and science of instruction, with an emphasis on examining the theories of teaching and learning.Educational resources and instructional methods will be analyzed.
- Educator Practicum *option to waive
Focuses on the nurse practice role in education. The theories and current issues impacting the roles of nursing educators will be explored. Supervised, precepted practice of teaching in higher education, staff development and continuing education of consumer education is the focus of this course.

Technical Proficiency
Any student, who wishes to enroll in the online Post Master’s Certificate program or an online course, must have a minimum level of computer competency in order to be successful. To develop or refresh skills, the student may use the tutorials provided.All tutorials are to be completed prior to starting an online course.Students will be required to demonstrate minimum computer competence by successfully completing the technology proficiency prior to starting an online course.
The student must have the ability to:
- Log onto the internet and other applications with a user ID and password
- Use a search engine on the internet
- Use the library databases to retrieve articles
- Receive, send and reply to email in WebCT and mccn.edu mail systems
- Develop, file, revise, edit and print WORD® documents
- Attach documents/files to email messages and/or assignments
- Follow and participate in an online discussion or chat
