Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Mount Carmel College of Nursing's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program is designed for RN’s who are ready to pursue graduate education that will lead to an acute care focused advanced practice nursing role. According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (AACN), the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioner provides health care services to adult patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioner provides these services in high-acuity settings that require intensive monitoring and therapeutic intervention. Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioners are typically employed in hospital settings, including intensive care, sub-acute care, and emergency care; but, may also be employed in ambulatory, outpatient, and rehabilitative settings to provide population-based care across the healthcare continuum for the purpose of restoring individuals to their maximal health potential. Graduates of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioner track are prepared to take the ANCC certification examination for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners.
Admissions Criteria
Thank you for your interest in applying for admission to the program in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner option at Mount Carmel College of Nursing. This program is an on-site program.
The admission requirements for the program include:
- Baccalaureate Degree, Master’s Degree, or Doctoral Degree in Nursing accreditation by either the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
- A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the baccalaureate nursing program or graduate nursing program is recommended
- PREREQUISITES: Undergraduate Statistics and Research courses with a letter grade of “C” or better in both
- Face to face or phone interview for qualified applicants (at the discretion of the Nurse Practitioner Faculty)
- Current unrestricted Ohio RN license or eligibility for Ohio RN licensure
- One year of recent clinical experience is recommended
- Two letters of reference (from individuals such as: work supervisors, professional colleagues, and former faculty members)
- One page, typed statement of purpose written by the applicant that outlines the applicant's goals and objectives for the pursuit of nurse practitioner study
- Current resume or curriculum vitae
- Complete set of official transcripts from previous colleges and universities
- A minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL for International students
* The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner track admits only in the Fall semester (begins in August)
* Application for the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with a Trauma Focus track is 1 February until 30 June for the following Fall semester (January) cohort. All admission materials should be submitted 30 June.
The admission materials to be submitted for consideration in the program include:
- Completed application form and $30 application fee
- Official transcript(s) from master’s program in Nursing
- Current resume
On-Site Classes for the program will be scheduled on Wednesdays.
When completing the precepted practicum, students must meet the compliance requirements of all agencies.
