Graduate Certificate in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Mount Carmel College of Nursing's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Graduate Certificate Program is designed for master’s prepared RN’s who are ready to pursue graduate education that will lead to an acute care focused advanced practice nursing role. According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (AACN), the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioner provides health care services to adult patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioner provides these services in high-acuity settings that require intensive monitoring and therapeutic intervention. Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioners are typically employed in hospital settings, including intensive care, sub-acute care, and emergency care; but, may also be employed in ambulatory, outpatient, and rehabilitative settings to provide population-based care across the healthcare continuum for the purpose of restoring individuals to their maximal health potential. Graduates of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care nurse practitioner track are prepared to take the ANCC certification examination for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners.

Admissions Criteria

Thank you for your interest in applying for admission to the program in Graduate Certificate in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner option at Mount Carmel College of Nursing. This program is an on-site program.

The admission requirements for the program include:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program; accreditation by either the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
  • Current unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse license
  • Current unrestricted certification and licensure as Adult Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Must have completed courses in: Advanced Health Assessment, Advanced Physiology/Pathophysiology and Advanced Pharmacology
  • Must have 3-5 years of Advanced Practice experience
  • All admission materials should be submitted 15 February. Admission applications are accepted for Summer Session (beginning in May)

The admission materials to be submitted for consideration in the program include:

  • Completed application form and $30 application fee
  • Official transcript(s) from master’s program in Nursing
  • Current résumé

On-Site Classes for the program will be scheduled on Wednesdays.

When completing the precepted practicum, students must meet the compliance requirements of all agencies.
