Admissions Criteria : Masters Program

To be considered for admission to any of the five master's program tracks at Mount Carmel the following is required:

  • Baccalaureate (Master's and Doctoral also considered for the FNP program) Degree in Nursing from an accredited program; accreditation by either the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the baccalaureate nursing program
  • Undergraduate statistics and research courses with a letter grade of "C" or better in both
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae
  • Two letters of reference (From individuals such as work, supervisors, professors, colleagues and former faculty)
  • One page, typed, statement of purpose written by the applicant that outlines applicant's goals plus objectives for pursuit of graduate studies
  • Current, unrestricted Ohio RN license or eligibility for Ohio RN licensure
  • Minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for International Students
  • Interview (required only for those seeking admission to the FNP program)
  • One year recent clinical experienced (recommended for those seeking admission to the FNP program)

Admission Categories for CNS - Adult Health, Nursing Administration & Nursing Education Tracks:

1. Full Admission

Student has met all admission criteria for the MCCN master's program.

2. Non-matriculated Admission

If a student does not meet the 3.0 GPA admissions criteria for the undergraduate BSN program, but shows potential in other areas (recommendations, resume, etc.) the student may be admitted with non-matriculated admission status. An undergraduate BSN GPA of 2.75-2.99 is considered.

A student must take one specified course a semester for two semesters. Continued enrollment is contingent upon demonstration of sufficient ability to do graduate work. The student must achieve a minimum cumulative average of 3.00 for these 6 credits of graduate work. The student’s application will subsequently be considered for full admission at the successful completion of the course and GPA requirements.

Students who have the non-matriculated admission status may not register for more than 6 credits.
