Through a number of well-organized student groups and activities, you'll be able to extend your Mount Carmel College of Nursing education outside the classroom. Whether your interests are professional, social, spiritual, or athletic, there is a student organization that can make your college experience even more fulfilling. Student Government The Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN) Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization designed to represent the ideals, values and beliefs of MCCN students and is dedicated to excellence in action. SGA is committed to working collaboratively with administration and faculty to enhance MCCN programs, activities and initiatives. more Campus Ministry The Campus Ministry program supports and promotes the spiritual side of student life. The Campus Minister coordinates spiritual and religious activities, programs, and events. Activities include: - Retreats – Campus Ministry students will help plan and lead a weekend retreat to get away from the demands of school and work. Time will be set aside for personal prayer and reflection, recreation and discussion.
- Ecumenical prayer services – Campus Ministry students will facilitate 3 ecumenical prayer services for the academic year (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter).
- Prayer and share group – Students will meet monthly to reflect, discuss, and support each other in their spiritual growth and journey.
- Community service projects – Campus Ministry students in an effort to promote systemic change in areas of peace and justice are involved in both local and national service projects.
Students are welcome at any time in the Mount Carmel West chapel, located on the second floor of the hospital (between Wendy’s and the Gift Shop). The schedule of worship services is posted at the College. - Protestant services: Sunday, 10 a.m.
- Catholic Mass: Wednesday, noon.
- Interfaith services: As noted on schedule.
Intramural Sports To encourage healthy bodies as well as healthy minds, the College organizes a number of intramural sports each year for individuals and teams, including co-ed softball and volleyball and women’s basketball. Other sporting events include bowling, dodge ball, and golf tournaments. Student Activities The College offers a variety of activities for students, ranging from field trips to Clipper's baseball games and NHL Blue Jackets hockey games to on campus lectures and specialty week events. Activities are regularly communicated via e-mail, through the campus newspaper, The Carmel Rapper and on the web site. Student Nurses Association of Mount Carmel (SNAM) SNAM is Mount Carmel's affiliate of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), a pre-professional organization that offers a variety of programs and activities aimed at fostering professional growth and development,and honing leadership skills. Joining the NSNA provides a number of benefits, including the opportunity to participate in state and national conventions, receive loans and scholarships, secure Professional Liability Insurance, and receive the association’s Imprint magazine. Student Ambassador Program The college ambassador program is designed to familiarize individuals throughout the campus and Columbus community with the offerings of Mount Carmel College of Nursing. Students who are chosen to be college ambassadors represent the student body at various college events and are an integral part of Mount Carmel College of Nursing communications efforts. These events range from casual to "black tie" affairs. College ambassadors perform a wide variety of tasks at these events such as: setting up the event, distributing programs, registering guests, and answering questions regarding Mount Carmel College of Nursing. Students chosen to be college ambassadors represent the "brightest and best" students at Mount Carmel College of Nursing. - Applicants must be in good academic standing
- Applicants must be well rounded in terms of academic performance, activities, and/or athletics, and leadership
- Candidates must have strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to be considered
- Since the college ambassador program is of such significance, competition is strong for positions.
