Applying for Financial Aid

As you’d expect, receiving financial aid requires a little paperwork. In order to be considered for federal and state grants and loans you must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online or through your high school guidance office and cannot be filed before January 1 of each year. After filing your FAFSA, you should receive a Student Aid Report in two to four days. The financial aid office typically receives your SAR two to three weeks after it has been accepted. If needed you may do corrections online as well.

Throughout the application process, you may receive requests for further documentation or verification of information. All requested materials must be returned to the Financial Aid office within 30 days to avoid losing financial aid.

Upon receipt of your SAR, Mount Carmel College of Nursing will process and generate your financial aid award letter. This is a notification of financial aid that you are eligible to receive. You must accept or decline all or part of the aid prior to disbursement taking place. Please note that if you are receiving Federal and/or State grants, they will be processed automatically. Loans of any type will not be processed until you have accepted them. If your financial situation changes during the academic year you may file an appeal to request the financial aid office determine any changes in your aid eligibility. You must complete a new FAFSA for each academic year, and if you wish to be considered for institutional aid you must complete a Mount Carmel Financial Aid application each year.

Key Dates

Keep in mind these key dates as you apply or reapply for financial aid:

• January 1 – First opportunity to file your FAFSA or FAFSA Renewal form.
• March 1 – Deadline for submitting your FAFSA for priority consideration for campus-based aid. (Note: For federal aid the FAFSA can be submitted as late as the end of the academic year.)
