Working Together for Alumni
The Mount Carmel Alumni Association office has seen significant change over the past few months. Although Phylis Motz Crook ’63, RN, is retiring after 18 years as Mount Carmel Coordinator of Alumni Relations, she will remain close at hand.
Phylis will now put her considerable talents and personal familiarity with Mount Carmel alumni to good use as a Mount Carmel alumni volunteer. She continues as alumni editor with the LAMP and will work closely with Michelle Uhl Born ’75, BSN, RN, CHPN, who was named to the recently expanded role, Mount Carmel Coordinator of Alumni Relations, in October.
2013 Alumni Homecoming Highlights
A beautiful autumn day, typical of Ohio’s “Indian Summer” welcomed 158 alumni and friends to the 2013 Annual Alumni Homecoming and Luncheon on October 5. This year’s 50-Year Honor Class, 1963, had a strong showing with 38 “rare and beauteous flowers,” as they were called by one of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, in attendance. Alumna Pat Ruck ’63, RN, was delighted to be the raffle winner of a lovely quilt, handmade by the most senior graduate in attendance, Dorothy Gorenflo Cluff ’42, RN. The quilt raffle raised $1,120 for the MCAA Scholarship and Loan Fund. Other donations for the Fund totaled $1,482 and the Mimosa Bar raised $215.
2013 Distinguished Alumnus, Nerina Jackson Stepanovsky ’78, PhD, MSN, RN, CTRN, who was nominated by her husband, Tom Stepanovsky and accompanied by him, her mother, Norma Jackson, and several other family members and friends from Florida, won the $100 raffle. (Nerina will be featured in the upcoming issue, the LAMP.) Ann Curtis McCrery ’58, RN, won the $150 and Annabelle Kiraly Robinson ’57, RN, won the $50 prize.
Recruiting Alums for Alumni-Student Mentorship Program
Your help is key! Fifteen MC Alums are needed to serve as mentors to freshmen and sophomores in our new Alumni-Student Mentorship Program which gets underway effective January 2014. As part of the program, Alumni will offer support to MCCN students through phone calls, texts, emails and possibly visits if you choose to do so. Students in turn have the opportunity to seek Alumni mentor guidance and advice. The Alumni Office will offer formats for communications, student schedules and support. There are no financial obligations. Time commitment varies, but would be less than an hour a week. Contact Michele Born, Coordinator of Alumni Relations, at 614-234-5681 or firstname.lastname@example.org by December 22 if you are interested or have questions.
