On NBC4, Mount Carmel West, College of Nursing "Adopt" Avondale Elementary School

For more than 20 years, Mount Carmel West and the Mount Carmel College of Nursing have taken the students of nearby Avondale Elementary School under their wings, offering tutoring, tours, Halloween Parades, graduation ceremonies and other enrichment activities.

Again this year, the College of Nursing gymnasium stage is covered in presents of brightly colored bows and papers, a result of another successful gift drive. Upstairs, the Labor & Delivery and Mother-Infant units found the need was greater than ever. In addition to toys, they were told that many students lack the basic necessities – warm gloves and hats, and even food during the holiday break.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, Franklinton’s Gladden Community House food pantry has seen clients from as far out as Grove City and western Franklin County. The surge was such that, three months ago, the pantry began limiting distributions to people who live in three ZIP codes in the immediate area. Even so, the demand on pantry services has more than doubled over the past three years.

Tonight at 5pm on NBC4, see how one Associate created passion, and compassion, among her teammates and practicing physicians to bring Extra-Happy Holidays to Avondale Elementary – complete with vacation-break snack packs.
