Commencement 2013: Mount Carmel College of Nursing Celebrates Record Class of Graduates

Columbus, Ohio…It was a milestone event for Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN) as a record number of graduates received undergraduate and graduate degrees at ceremonies held on Saturday, May 11, at First Church of God in Columbus. A total of 147 candidates received Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees and 30 students, Master of Science (MS).

“We are extremely proud of our graduates who have chosen to pursue their dreams of becoming professional registered nurses or have taken their nursing degrees to a higher level with the rigor of graduate studies”, said Ann Schiele, PhD, RN, president and dean, Mount Carmel College of Nursing. ”This is a milestone year for Mount Carmel---it’s the largest graduation class ever in the history of our institution which is also celebrating 110 years of providing nursing education in central Ohio.”

The commencement speaker was Brian Tierney, executive vice president and chief financial officer for American Electric Power (AEP). Tierney has served as both MCCN board chair and as board member for almost a decade.

Mount Carmel College of Nursing is among the state’s largest undergraduate nursing programs and offers a graduate program in nursing as well as certification programs. Mount Carmel is affiliated with the Mount Carmel Health System. Founded in 1903 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, the College is located on the campus of Mount Carmel West Hospital.
