What inspired you to become a nurse?

From a young age, I knew that I wanted to serve others. I spent my first two years of college at Bowling Green State University majoring in Digital Forensics, but I could not imagine my life sitting behind a screen. After weeks of talking to friends, family, and mentors, I decided that nursing would allow me the human interaction I was looking for while still being in S.T.E.M., which is what I love.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

I loved being at Bowling Green State University, but I wanted to come home. I knew that I still wanted to go to school but I wanted to be able to focus on nursing through all four years and not take courses that were not focused on nursing. Everyone at Mount Carmel is willing to help you achieve your goals. I know I will never struggle alone, and everyone is rooting for our success.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

My goal for my nursing career is to be a safe and healing person for those I treat, regardless of their background. I want to be the voice for those who are unable to speak for themselves.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell my younger self that I cannot control everything around me. Focusing on what I can control will allow me to succeed without exhausting myself.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

I would ask them why they are considering nursing and how much time and effort they are willing and able to put into their career. Nursing isn't a major that you can just learn and forget as you go on--you have to continuously review and add on to previous knowledge. It is worth it but if you are not ready to commit then you will struggle.
