What inspired you to become a nurse?

I wanted to find a fulfilling career where I knew I was helping people in a meaningful way. It helps that my mom told me to be a nurse since the day I was born, but I had to travel my own path a bit before fully committing.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

The best thing about MCCN is the staff. My professors are insistent on assuring we learn everything we can before getting out into the field and do a fantastic job of putting it all into perspective. It's so tough to keep at it some days, but in less than a year we will have people's lives in our hands, and they refuse to let us forget that.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

My biggest goal for my nursing career is to continue learning. Being a nurse is such a great opportunity when there are so many different paths you can take. Medicine is always changing, and no two people are the same. When you take those two things into consideration, I know that every day in a hospital there will be something new to learn.

What advice would you give your younger self?

You're smart enough to do anything. You can achieve your biggest goals and dreams in any amount of time that you see fit. It's never too late to change the course. All those things you thought were so difficult, you made it through. Keep going and keep growing.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

Do it for the right reasons and you will never regret your decision. All the stuff about nursing school you may think is too hard or scary or intimidating is simply part of the path on your journey to one of the most fulfilling careers out there.

SDAP is difficult and there are plenty of days we all aren't sure if we are going to make it to the next week. It’s a program like no other because there are students from all ages and walks of life. The people you meet and create study groups with will be friends for life. It's nice that you can bond over some hardships and help get each other through the best way you know how. The resources the school provides through programs like the Student Success Center and even a GroupMe with all your fellow cohorts so you can make friends and start study groups are crucial to helping get you through. I don't know what I would have done without Professor Hann helping me utilize my time wisely through a strict schedule coordinating work, school, and life.
