What inspired you to become a nurse?
I like the variety of opportunities nursing brings and how useful and trusted the profession is. There are so many different settings where a nurse can work, and that is intriguing to me. I have worked with many nurses and been inspired by their resourcefulness, skills, and clinical judgment.
What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?
I appreciate the size of Mount Carmel. It is very close-knit and easy to know other people. This is useful both for social and academic reasons! There is always someone readily available to respond to an email quickly about school logistics or class content.
What are your goals for your nursing career?
In nursing, I hope to gain as much experience as possible with critical care. I love working in the ICU as a respiratory therapist, and I want to continue in that realm as a nurse as well. I also have a goal to do medical relief or mission work, and I believe nursing would equip me for that kind of work.
What advice would you give your younger self?
If I were to give advice to my younger self, I would tell her to invest in quality friendships. Having a solid support system is vital to achieving big goals, as well as handling the occasional disappointments life brings. Additionally, it is incredibly rewarding to be that support for others.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?
I would tell someone considering nursing to learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable. This phrase has gotten me through stressful times in my personal life, difficult workouts and runs, and has been very applicable throughout nursing school. I also imagine that working as a nurse will have times of discomfort, stress, and feeling overwhelmed. However, making peace with being uncomfortable and committing to work through it helps you come out the other side!
