What inspired you to become a nurse?

I believe we humans are meant to be there for each other and help those in need, and nursing is at the precipice. That is what inspired me. Being able to be the advocate for someone at their worst state and show them the empathy they deserve while simultaneously helping to heal their body is an amazing thing.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

I love that it is so small. At other colleges I have gone to, we are all just numbers. At MCCN, we are individuals. I know I can always reach out and will be heard.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

I originally wanted to be an ED RN at Mount Carmel East, where I have worked for the last 6 years. Due to medical reasons, it looks like that might not be the right path due to the high physicality of the job. I am now thinking about continuing my education to get my NP and then specializing in emergency medicine, critical care, or trauma.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Life is full of ups, downs, roadblocks, and detours. Don't hyper fixate on them and let them control you. Everything happens for a reason, and wherever your journey may take you, it will all work out.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

Empathy, patience, and critical thinking are the MAJOR ingredients to make a great nurse. Ask yourself if you utilize those in your daily life. Consider what those three words mean to you when considering a career in nursing.
