New Year, New Beginnings, New Traditions at MCCN

New MCCN students get ready for their procession through the Franklinton neighborhood to Convocation at nearby Holy Family Catholic Church, as MCCN welcomes a new incoming class and a new President and Dean for the 2014-15 academic year. For the first time, Convocation was held in conjunction with orientation on Thursday, August 14. The College welcomed 149 new students, as well as its new incoming President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, the College’s second President.

As orientation commenced on August 14, MCCN began a school year steeped with new beginnings. Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, assumed her new role as the College’s second President and Dean in July. Coming to us from the Breen School of Nursing at Ursuline College, this will be a first for Dr. Wynd, too, as she brings her extensive knowledge and experience to her first role as a college president. You can read more about Dr. Wynd in our feature included with this edition of The Carmel Rapper.

This year also marks the first year that MCCN held Convocation in conjunction with new student orientation, aligning this long-held tradition with common practice at other colleges and universities. By targeting this ceremony at new students, the College aims to make the event more meaningful for students as they embark on their journey at MCCN.

Last but not least, The Carmel Rapper begins a new life in a fully electronic format. By transforming to a format similar to the ALUMNews electronic newsletter for alumni, the College will be able to update you in a more timely and efficient fashion about achievements and happenings of our students, faculty and staff. Realizing that many of us lead ever-busier lives, this new format also will enable MCCN to post links to individual stories on our social media accounts directly for the first time. Not only will this give our faculty, staff and students another chance to see the Rapper stories, but it will enable our greater community to see the incredible things we accomplish posted on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram [@mccnedu] accounts, and of course, our website, mccn.edu.

Welcome back. Let’s begin this year’s journey together.
