A Letter From Dr. Wynd to Faculty, Staff and Students

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

Welcome back to campus as we embark on a year of new beginnings!

Not only was I thrilled to assume my role as your new President and Dean for Mount Carmel College of Nursing, but – as we begin the academic year – I am eager to reach new milestones with you, either as faculty and staff break new ground in education and nursing research, or as students take their next steps toward a career in nursing. I look forward to meeting new challenges and celebrating your accomplishments with you as this journey unfolds.

I have already enjoyed the very warm welcome extended to me by our faculty and staff, as well as from the Mount Carmel Board of Trustees and alumni who stopped by my office to say hello and wish me well. Visits to Advanced Placement Program and Second Degree Accelerated Program classes, which met over the summer, were also great moments to connect with one another – as was the time shared with new freshmen and their families during last week’s visit to campus for orientation. Thank you for these first opportunities to get to know you better.

In the spirit of new beginnings, I also had the wonderful experience of being a part of a new Convocation tradition, leading the procession of new students to Holy Family Catholic Church last week, as the Class of 2018 took their first step in joining the MCCN family. The event, which heralded the official start of the academic year and highlighted our rich heritage of commitment to nursing education and our mission, was one filled with joy, music and celebration. I’m sure these are just the first of many new traditions we will create together, while maintaining the exceptional standards for which MCCN is known, and while also growing and transforming to meet the future needs of nursing.

To help everyone get to know me better, I’ve answered some fun questions about what got me started in my career and my interests outside of nursing education for a profile that appears in this premiere issue of The Carmel Rapper e-newsletter. Perhaps one of the “getting to know you” questions will serve as a conversation starter for us as we meet around campus – I’d love to hear your answers, too!

I am humbled by the trust that has been placed in me as your new President and Dean and am looking forward to embarking with you on our 111th year of excellence in nursing education. I am blessed to be a part of this endeavor and proud to be the newest member of the MCCN team.

Sincerely yours,

Christine Wynd, PhD, RN
President and Dean
