MCCN Hosts “Explore Nursing” College Readiness Day for Local High School Students

Select high school sophomores and juniors from Columbus City and South-Western City schools gathered at MCCN on Saturday, March 21 for the first ever Explore Nursing program.

Three students from each school were selected by their guidance counselors to spend the day with MCCN students, faculty and staff learning about nursing education and future nursing careers, as well as information on preparing for the college application process.

"We wanted students to have an interactive experience that would engage them and peak their interest in nursing,” said Admissions Counselor Paige Kiley. “The purpose of the day was not only to educate students about the nursing field, but also to prepare them for the college application process and to get them to start thinking about their next steps after high school," she said.

Admissions counselors from MCCN assisted students with transcript reviews and presented students with information on college readiness throughout the day.

Students toured the state-of-the-art Clinical Skills and Simulation Center on campus and practiced hands-on skill development such suturing, administering CPR and taking blood pressure and temperature. An ambulance also was brought on site for tours conducted by emergency medical services personnel.
