The Student Nurses Association at Mount Carmel (SNAM) is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, September 8 from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. in the College Gym. Please consider donating, as there have been critical shortages of blood throughout the past year. You can sign up for an appointment either by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or online at redcrossblood.org, sponsor code: MountCarmelCollNursing. Walk-ins are welcome as time permits. Remember to bring a photo ID with you and to increase your iron intake for at least a week in preparation for donation.
MCCN, Library and Mount Carmel Health System staff represented Mount Carmel at Fam Jam, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman’s Neighborhood Pride festival held at Columbus Commons on August 29. The event featured more than 80 community organizations, entertainment, food and a rock climbing wall.
Seniors: show off your nursing knowledge and make MCCN proud as you battle it out for bragging rights as the smartest nursing students in the state at the Ohio Student Nurses Association (OSNA) Brain Bowl! Hosted by nurse comedian Terry Foster, the contest will be held during the OSNA convention on Friday evening, October 16 and will feature teams of 4 nursing students. There also will be a special bonus round where the winners will take on teams of nursing professors! If you are interested, please contact Brenda Beyer at firstname.lastname@example.org. The College will cover the $40 registration fee for interested students.
The Mount Carmel Health Sciences Library recently was pleased to host Abi Alayo, an assistant librarian at Barts Health NHS Trust, Knowledge & Library Services at Newham University Hospital in London, England. She was on a study tour of knowledge in healthcare and chose to visit the Mount Carmel Health Sciences Library, The Ohio State University Health Sciences Library, Nationwide Childrens' Hospital Medical Library, Ruth Lilly Medical Library in Indiana and the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County (Illinois) Academic Center Library.
Several student members of MCCN Campus Ministry as well as Downtowners Campus Ministry, which encompasses other colleges in the downtown Columbus area, took part in a mission to trip to Washington, D.C. this past May. Participating students included Tess Robson, MacKenzie Chittenden, Katie Cline, Brianna Conkle, Lindsay Goeglein, Kaci Gundin, Olivia Gundin, Harley Hart, Yussuf Ibrow, Erin Polley, Racheal Rine, Haley Robison, Megan Smith and Nicole West. Director of Campus Ministry Ellen O’Shaughnessy, DMin, and her husband, Dr. Bob Padberg, accompanied the students on their trip.
