Other degrees/certifications: I am currently pursuing my MSN/FNP through Chamberlain College of Nursing. I am NIH certified; this certification allows me to further assess stroke patients by administering the stroke scale.

Professional highlights: I worked for UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), where I assisted in the implementation of the new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

When did you first feel the call to be a nurse? During my freshman year in college at Bowling Green State University, I was a Pre-Med/Biology major and became ill. A large portion of my care was delivered by the nurse practitioner; I fell in love with the way she provided care – and with the profession of nursing.

What television show do you have to DVR every week? Being Mary Jane.

What is your favorite memory of Mount Carmel? I had so many amazing memories and met so many incredible people! I truly enjoyed working with the local elementary schools, teaching the students how to read, and I loved delivering Christmas gifts and school supplies.

How has your Mount Carmel network helped you in your life, personally or professional or both? I developed a strong personal support system with many members of the faculty and staff, as well as with some of my peers. Without them, I wouldn't have graduated or maintained my sanity throughout my first few years as a nurse. Having a strong support system is imperative to ensuring you avoid getting burned out.

What book is currently on your nightstand (or at the top of your Kindle favorites)? Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence, by Sarah Young.

What advice would you like to share with other nurses as they move from being students to alumni of Mount Carmel? Never be afraid to ask questions and/or ask for help.
