First Students of Mount Carmel College of Nursing at Fairfield Medical Center Set to Graduate May 5

LANCASTER, Ohio (May 3, 2012) – The music of “Pomp and Circumstance” will herald the arrival this weekend of the first graduates of Mount Carmel College of Nursing at Fairfield Medical Center (MCCN FMC). A total of 15 MCCN FMC students will receive their Bachelor of Science in nursing degrees, joining students from the college’s main campus at ceremonies to be held on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at First Church of God on Refugee Road in Columbus.

“As Fairfield Medical Center's first class to graduate, I can’t say enough about how dedicated and committed this class has been,” said Cynthia Pearsall, MSN, RN, FMC chief nursing officer. “I call them our pioneers, because they have helped shape the program and wish them much success in the future.”

MCCN FMC located in Lancaster was established in fall 2008 and is a four-year baccalaureate program designed to prepare students for exciting careers in nursing. The first year of general classes is taken at Ohio University-Lancaster and then the next three years are based on the campus at FMC. The program affords students in Lancaster and surrounding areas the opportunity to obtain a Mount Carmel nursing education close to home.

“The program at FMC has been a wonderful partnership, designed to meet the critical nursing needs of our communities,” said Ann Schiele, PhD, RN, president and dean of MCCN. “I am so proud of our graduates because they have achieved their goals and are making a difference in our world by pursuing dynamic careers in the field of professional nursing.”

This is a milestone year for Mount Carmel. The institution celebrates both the first graduates of MCCN FMC and also the largest graduating class of both graduate students and undergraduates in the history of the institution, which dates back 109 years. A total of 199 students are set to receive degrees in nursing.
