COLUMBUS, OH — On Monday, November 13, 2017, Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN) will be celebrating inclusivity on campus with an Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer Service. Hosted by MCCN Campus Ministry, this event will be held in the College Lounge at noon and attended by representatives of the Christian, Islamic, and Jewish faiths, as well as MCCN faculty, staff, students and friends of the College.

Invited faith leaders who will call us to a prayer of Thanksgiving and healing are: Dr. Ellen O’Shaughnessy,MCCN director of Campus Ministry; Pastor Juan Leon from United Life Ministries; Imam Horsed Noah of the Abubakar Assiddiq Islamic Center; Rabbi Jessica Shimberg representing the Little Minyan Kehillah; and Paulist Priest Father Stuart Wilson-Smith from the Saint Thomas Moore Newman Center. Campus Ministry students who will be among those responding are: Kemi Adegoke, Diamond Akabuaku, Amanda Barrett, Becca Bujnoch, Cameron Duke, Alumna Yuliya Fonin and Fadumo Jama-Aden.

Father Stuart will accompany on guitar with the MCCN Choir led by faculty member, Mary Yoder, and faculty member Emily Strand will accompany on piano. Student Wesley Williams, who is a musician and trumpet soloist, will play Amazing Grace. Jenny and Miguel Garcia will share how they are trying to help Miguel’s father in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. The Garcias are central Ohio residents whose family in Puerto Rico has benefitted from the generosity of the community.

The Offering of the Prayer Service will be gifts of warm socks, hats, coats, blankets, gloves, tents, AAA batteries, and gently used tennis shoes or boots for the homeless living on our streets. The offerings will be received and distributed by faculty member Hannah O’Handley and the staff of the Mount Carmel Outreach Street Medicine Program.
