What inspired you to become a nurse?

I have always found joy and fulfillment in caring for others during difficult times. I decided to go back to school and pursue nursing because I know that this is the best career to show love and care to others. I want to be a nurse because it honors the ministry that Jesus had on earth. He emphasized caring for those who are not well and being a light to others in difficult times. By making this my own ministry, I can be more like Christ and make a difference in my patients' lives.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

The Mount Carmel College of Nursing faculty is one of the best things I have experienced. I have felt very supported in my time at the college. Everyone is so knowledgeable which makes me feel prepared for each new experience. I know that this support will follow me into my career as well.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

I would like to become a Labor and Delivery or a NICU nurse one day. Wherever I end up, however, my biggest goal is to leave a lasting impact on others. People don't always have the best hospital experience so I would love to advocate for them so they can have a good experience.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don't doubt yourself! When you doubt yourself, you hold yourself back. You are capable of so much more if you keep believing in yourself. And never stop caring for others because you will make the biggest difference by doing that.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

Nursing is definitely a big responsibility. At times, you will literally have someone’s life in your hands. But people need nurses who can recognize this! If you know how to advocate for others and use critical thinking, you will be a great nurse who will make a big difference.

If you want to become a nurse, I highly suggest trying to get a job at a local hospital or medical facility. Working in a hospital prior to starting school will help you build confidence in patient care and advocacy.
