Sister Clare Anne (Naomi Rumschlag)

Many Mount Carmel alumni will fondly remember Sister Clare Anne (Naomi Rumschlag), CSC, who passed away on March 6, 2015, at South Bend, Indiana.

Born December 17, 1914, Sister entered the convent of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1932 at the age of 18; made her Profession in 1938; and was 100 years old at the time of her death.

Sister Claire Anne, who earned her Nursing Diploma from Mount Carmel School of Nursing in 1940, went on to earn Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees before serving in a number of hospital administrative positions and teaching in various schools of nursing, all under the sponsorship of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Her illustrious career of teaching nursing skills to young nursing candidates brought her much joy, and a large following of loyal and devoted students, including at Mount Carmel School of Nursing, where she taught and for many years and also served as student health nurse for a period.

In her memory, the Sister Clare Anne Memorial Scholarship has been established by Mount Carmel alumni to honor her years of dedicated service to Mount Carmel.
