Twelve MCCN faculty and staff were honored at the 10th Annual Excellence in Nursing Awards, held September 18 at Villa Milano. Along with winners from other areas throughout Mount Carmel Health System, the honorees’ collaboration and commitment to nursing has earned them the respect and recognition of their peers. The Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell, DD, PhD, Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus, officiated the Commissioning ceremony for MCCN President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD.


MCCN held a Commissioning ceremony for President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, at Mount Carmel West on September 23 as part of her formal on-boarding process with the College.

More than $305,000 was awarded in student scholarships on September 11 during the annual Mount Carmel College of Nursing Scholarship Dinner. Approximately100 students were in attendance to accept scholarships and meet this year’s donors. Alumni from the classes of 1957,1963,1964 and 1975 funded seven of the scholarships awarded.

In accordance with tradition for new college presidents, Mount Carmel College of Nursing will hold a Presidential Inauguration for new President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, on Friday, October 24. The day will start with a Presidential Inaugural Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral downtown. The actual Inauguration and Presidential Installation Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at COSI Columbus. A dessert reception will follow the ceremony.

More than $106,000 was raised to support nursing education at MCCN at the 20th annual Mount Carmel Foundation Golf Invitational at the Lakes Golf and Country Club in Westerville on Monday, September 15.

The funds raised from this event will help many students realize their dreams of becoming professional registered nurses. More than 90 percent of MCCN students receive financial aid.

Fitness and Nutrition Club (FAN Club) is embarking on its sixth year as a community partnership to meet the needs of children in grades 3 through 5 at nearby Avondale Elementary School by offering an after school program focused on fitness training and nutrition education. According to Toni Chops, MS, RN, CNE, faculty coordinator for the program, the FAN Club is a partnership between Mount Carmel College of Nursing, Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) and Columbus Public Schools.
