The Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell, DD, PhD, Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus, officiated the Commissioning ceremony for MCCN President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD.

MCCN held a Commissioning ceremony for President and Dean Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, at Mount Carmel West on September 23 as part of her formal on-boarding process with the College.

The Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell, DD, PhD, Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus, officiated the event, which was championed by Sister Barbara Hahl, CSC, Senior Vice President for System Mission at Mount Carmel Health System. Claus von Zychlin, Mount Carmel President and CEO, provided the pledge at the ceremony, while Matt Mazza, Chair, MCCN Board of Trustees, recited the invocation and Dr. Wynd’s husband, Charles Santose, recited the scripture reading.

Commissioning is a tradition dating back to when Mount Carmel only had one hospital, and marked the arrival of a new senior leader to that facility. Now the ceremony is a symbol of the importance of the position that is being filled. Since President and Dean of MCCN is a unique position within Mount Carmel Health System, it holds its own importance. The Commissioning Ceremony gives the organization allegiance to the new leader, and allegiance from the new leader to organization. It also blesses the new leader in his or her new role and is an internal recognition of service and support.

This is just the first of such ceremonies marking Dr. Wynd’s new role. MCCN also will hold a President Inauguration, a higher education tradition for new college presidents, on Friday, October 24 at COSI Columbus.
