Message from the President

Kathleen Williamson

Welcome!

The new academic year begins today and the faculty, staff and I are so excited to be welcoming you to what I trust will be an excellent year full of excitement, new learning opportunities, and meeting new friends.

Excitement around the College began picking up last week, as many of you came to collect your iPad packages. The new technology, provided through the i-Innovate program, is going to improve your overall educational experience, whether you’re on campus, online or learning remotely. We hope that you make the most of these new tools and share feedback with your faculty so we can grow and improve the program.

We continue to place your health and safety above all else, so please check the website often for updates about Covid-19 protocols. We have come a long way through this pandemic, but it is not quite behind us yet. If you have questions or concerns about safety and well-being, please contact MCCN Director of Safety and Compliance Mitch Joseph-Kemplin at mjoseph-kemplin@mccn.edu. Remember…your success is our priority. As you begin this new semester, please utilize faculty and staff as resources if you need information or assistance with anything.

A new academic year means new opportunities, experiences and friendships. I wish you all an exciting and productive year. I hope you will excel in your studies and make us proud with your best efforts and results!

Sincerely,

Kathleen Williamson, PhD, MSN, RN
President & Academic Dean, Mount Carmel College of Nursing

Faculty Fellows Fired UP

The Faculty Fellows are back in action for the 21-22 school year. The team worked through the summer on fun projects, including coaching colleagues in conference proposals and course development. This year, a new initiative begins:

MCCN is going to be a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education. Of course, we’re already an excellent college, but the official title comes when MCCN’s excellence is recognized by the National League for Nursing (NLN). Our journey towards the designation launches with the first application, due in October.

While this project is a new initiative, building a proposal for the NLN will look a lot like building a proposal for any project.

  • Assess the requirements
  • Gather evidence of meeting the requirements
  • Present that evidence in a way that readers understand

This proposal process has a long record of success at MCCN. It works in developing student papers and conference proposals, and provides the foundation for MCCN’s recognition as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education.

Farewell Fellow Nightingales

Kathy Smith Margaret Stinner

Please join us in wishing Kathy Smith, MBA, director of business affairs (left), and Margaret Stinner, MS, RN, assistant professor (right), happy and healthy retirements as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

Margaret was hired in 1974 by then Director Eleanor Wilson and is looking forward to having a more relaxed timeline and being more spontaneous. She says among her favorite memories of The Mount is watching her students walk across the stage at graduation, and says, “Graduation is the culmination of a major collaborative effort.”
