On Thursday, August 9, MCCN’s Class of 2022 processed on campus to kick off Convocation and New Student Welcome festivities. A bagpiper led the way, while faculty members in full regalia stepped off with 188 new freshman and transfer students eagerly blazing a trail to answering life’s calling at MCCN to become professional nurses.
Ann Marie T. Brooks, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN, FACHE, FNAP, president, MCCN, welcomed the new Nightingales, their families and friends, and alumni, faculty, and staff to Convocation. She noted that 2018 is a special year for the College – the 115th anniversary of the founding of the School of Nursing by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
Tanya Hahn, CPA, MBA, who is chair, MCCN’s Board of Trustees, commended our newest students on their commitment to pursuing nursing as a career and assured them of the Board’s commitment ensuring an outstanding academic foundation for every student, now and in the future.
Sean McKibben, who is president and CEO at Mount Carmel West and Mount Carmel Grove City, detailed the $46 million investment made by Trinity Health and Mount Carmel Health System for the Journey to Transformation of MCCN’s campus. He discussed the many enhancements and expansion of space that will greatly benefit our students (read more in the Lamp, page 14, Summer 2018).
Sister Barbara Hahl, CSC, senior vice president, Community Services, Mount Carmel Health System, offered a prayer and shared the history of our founders – the Sisters of the Holy Cross – with those gathered. She also talked about the Core Values of MCCN and why the College has added a new Core Value: Diversity. Although a commitment to diversity has long been significant, by making it a Core Value it sends an important message that all are welcome and all are included, respected and appreciated.
The new Core Value is just one of the focused strategies that emerged through development of the College’s comprehensive strategic plan that ensures readiness to accommodate increased student demand that our enhanced campus will attract.
