What inspired you to become a nurse?
I was inspired to become a nurse because of all the different opportunities available in nursing! You can work with kids or adults, in a hospital or at a summer camp, go back to school for a doctorate or easily find a job with your BSN. Nursing is a great way to help others and you will never get bored. I love the 3 12-hour shift schedule to maximize fun on days off. I love that I get to work with people from all walks of life and am active on my feet.
What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?
I chose MCCN because of how quickly SDAP prepares you to be a nurse. I appreciate the connection the college has to the hospital system. It provides great mentors and an easy transition to working as a new grad.
What are your goals for your nursing career?
I was able to accomplish my goal of travel nursing and had an incredible time. My next goal is to achieve a master’s in education to help teach future nurses. I want to help nurses develop their ability to critically think and cheer them along in the process.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Enjoy the process. Don't be too competitive to rush towards the destination but enjoy the journey.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?
To anyone who is undecided in a major I think nursing is a great option! It can grow with you in many stages of life and changing interests. As nurses we are busy advocating for our patients but don't forget to advocate for yourself. Whether it’s an unsafe assignment or you need a lunch break, don't be scared to speak up for safety or what is right.
