What inspired you to become a nurse?

I have a close family friend who was a travel nurse, and each time I would speak to her about it, I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do! I have always loved helping people, and when I started working in the Emergency Department, I knew.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

I have loved how much the students welcome you with open arms. I was never one to have a huge group of friends, and here at MCCN I have found my small group of really great friends. I have loved how much the Student Success Center truly wants you to succeed. No matter what subject I needed some extra help in, they have been able to work with me and ensure I understand the content.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

At this point my main goal is to finish nursing school successfully and pass the NCLEX. I would love to become a travel nurse, and potentially work in the ED. I have always wanted to work with kids so once I have my pediatrics rotation, I may want to work in the pediatric emergency room one day. Overall, I am truly looking forward to becoming an RN, and I cannot wait to see all the knowledge that I will gain.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

The main piece of advice I would give my younger college self would be to push through all those rough patches. Nursing school is tough, there is no doubt about it. But I have proven to myself each term that I can do it, and there are plenty of people who want to see me succeed. To my younger self, I would say that your future is bright, and you can succeed at anything that you work hard for. There are so many wonderful opportunities ahead, many that you never imagined that you would get!

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

I would tell someone that is considering a career in nursing that there are an abundant number of paths you can take and be amazing at. In nursing school, you learn so many skills that help save people’s lives. If you put your mind to something, and work hard, you can do anything that you want. Being a nurse takes a special kind of person, and I know you can do it! There is always room to learn new skills and new practices, and that is what is amazing about nursing. Each day is something new, and you can look forward to that!
