The Mount Carmel community welcomes Christine Wynd, PhD, RN, as the new President and Dean of Mount Carmel Mount Carmel College of Nursing. Dr. Wynd succeeds Ann Schiele, PhD, RN, who transitioned to president emeritus effective July 31. Dr. Wynd is the College’s second president since Mount Carmel transitioned in 1990 from a school of nursing to a bachelor’s-level degree-granting institution.

Prior to coming to MCCN on July 1, Dr. Wynd served as dean and Strawbridge Professor at Breen School of Nursing at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Her experience in nursing education and leadership is extensive and includes directing the Doctorate of Nursing Practice program at the University of Akron and teaching at both The Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University. She retired from the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps at the rank of colonel in 2001. Her military experience includes serving as chief nurse for two separate combat support hospitals and as the Reserve Representative to the Office of the Assistant Chief, Army Nurse Corps.

An advocate of lifelong learning – in addition to her experience – Dr. Wynd will bring to MCCN her education from the Harvard Seminar for New Presidents, Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She also holds a doctorate degree in nursing executive administration from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Science degree in nursing from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Saint John College.

An exceptional leader who has the vision and dedication to take nursing education to the next level to meet the ever-changing demands and opportunities in healthcare and higher education, Dr. Wynd will transition the institution of higher learning, which was founded in 1903 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, into a new era in the history of Mount Carmel. She is devoted to sustaining the excellence already inherent in the College and to taking MCCN into a very bright and promising future as she builds on the work of those before her, and collaborates with the outstanding faculty and staff, dedicated alumni, engaged students and committed Board of Trustees.
