Thanks to a grant awarded to the MCCN Gerontology instructors by the Mount Carmel Foundation, Isabelle Ridgeway Post-Acute Care Center is now certified as a MUSIC & MEMORY℠ facility. With the help of the caretakers, as well as MCCN faculty and students, each resident at Isabelle Ridgeway will receive an iPod filled with his or her favorite music.

MUSIC & MEMORY℠ is a non-profit organization envisioned by Dan Cohen in attempt to bring familiar music to nursing home residents experiencing Alzheimer’s, dementia or other cognitive and physical challenges. According to the MUSIC & MEMORY℠ website, “Favorite music or songs associated with important personal events can trigger memory of lyrics and the experience connected to the music. Beloved music often calms chaotic brain activity and enables the listener to focus on the present moment and regain a connection to others.”

Do you have a gently used iPod and charger cord that you no longer need? Help us spread the music and find your iPod a good home with a resident at Isabelle Ridgeway. There are designated receptacles in the Library on the third floor of the CLE.
