Library Annual Open House

Join the Mount Carmel Health Sciences Library for the Annual Open House, from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 7. This year's theme , “Libraries Transform,” will showcase our collaboration with all academic departments of Mount Carmel Health System (MCHS), including Mount Carmel College of Nursing, alumni, MCHS Patient Care Services, physicians, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education, and the Center of Innovative Learning. Use the opportunity to see how our departments serve patients and diverse communities. “Libraries Transform” is an initiative of the American Library Association "designed to increase public awareness of the value, impact and services provided by libraries and library professionals."

Changes in the Library Space

The copiers are now located just inside the 3rd floor entrance to the Library, near the Front Desk. This makes it easier to get help when making copies.

Some of the Library Study Rooms have been repurposed. Here are the latest changes:

The Historic Collection and Prayer and Relaxation Room can be reserved weekdays for quiet prayer and relaxation. Times vary.

The Mothers' Room is designated to pump breast milk. It is split into two separate spaces with a privacy board and can be reserved. New moms have a quiet, peaceful place to pump.

Study Room 402 will remain available for individual and group study.

Room 403 Besides being great for studying, consider using it to practice presentations and public speaking. It can also be reserved for extracurricular activities, such as the Knitting Club.

Reserve any of the study rooms here.

Library GoGreen

As part of the its GoGreen initiative, new changes will come mid-November. Your Library will have new flash drives available to encourage you to save documents on the device and not use paper. You will notice more changes coming, including recycle bins for plastic, glass and paper, etc. Stay tuned!

Text for Silence

Is it too noisy in the designated quiet spaces of the Library to study effectively? You can now text us at 614-541-2224 and a Library staff member will assist and help maintain a quiet study environment.

Changes to the Leisure Reading Collection

Did you get a book as a gift but don't want to read it? Do you have paperback you need to get rid of? Consider giving them to the Library. Early in 2017, we are initiating a new program where you can take a book or leave one. We will no longer require you to check out anything from our Leisure Reading collection – it will be on the honor system. Simply bring a gently used book and give it to a Library Staff member. If you want to take one, help yourself to our selection. Maybe you will find a real page-turner!

Cristo Rey Coat Drive

To support Cristo Rey students, the Library is collecting coats for Annual Coat Drive. Bring new or gently used coats, hats, gloves or scarves to the Library by Monday, November 28. There are 375 students enrolled at Cristo Rey, so every donation helps. The Library serves as a work site for four Cristo Rey High School students, who each spend one day a week working at the Library.

Library Services

Professional Library staff is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We offer Librarian On Demand Service – follow this link to schedule a time: https://library.mchs.com/tutorials-training/instruction-on-demand.
