Melissa Swartz

As part of our ongoing series of faculty and staff profiles, this month we feature Melissa Swartz, M.Ed, MCCN director of Compliance.

Name: Melissa Swartz

Nickname: NA

Hometown: Amherst, Ohio

Alma Mater: University of West Florida, M.Ed; Ashland University, BA

I can’t live without: My family and friends.

If I could spend the day with one person it would be: My late grandfather.

If I could travel anywhere, I would go to: Reggio Calabria, Italy (with my father/family, to connect with my ancestral line).

When I have down time, I: Spend time with my family, enjoy the outdoors: running, hiking, kayaking, etc., and cook/bake.

The quotes I tend to live by are:

“Be compassionate, and take responsibility for each other. If we only learned those lessons, this world would be so much better a place. Devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie

“To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” Steve Prefontaine

I love my job because: I am passionate about connecting people to the support/resources they need, and ensuring that the people that I interact with understand policy, procedure and their rights and options- with the end goal of educational equity.

One thing you may not know about me is: I participated in Powerlifting at Ashland University during my senior year, and ended up placing 4th in the national in my category.
